Practical: Plant Cutting Selection and Brewing Willow Water for Natural Auxin + Salicylic Acid

This hands-on video demonstrates the techniques of stem cutting propagation and how to create natural auxin-rich willow water to enhance rooting success. 🌱We'll explore the optimal selection of cuttings, the science behind auxin transport, and the benefits of using willow water as a rooting hormone.

What you'll learn:

  • Stem Cutting Selection: Discover the ideal stem regions for successful propagation and how to identify nodes for optimal root development.

  • Auxin and Polar Transport: Understand the role of auxin in root initiation and the concept of polar auxin transport in plant cuttings.

  • Willow Water Benefits: Learn how to make willow water and its dual benefits as a natural source of auxin and an antimicrobial agent.

  • Hands-on Demonstration: Follow along as we prepare stem cuttings, create willow water, and discuss practical tips for successful propagation.

Plant cuttings can be taken from various wood types: hardwood, semi-hardwood, and softwood. While rooting is generally easier with semi-hardwood and softwood cuttings, using auxin hormones like IAA and IBA can significantly increase the success rate across all wood types.

Interestingly, you don't always need synthetic auxins! Nature provides its own rooting hormone: the Weeping Willow (Salix babylonica). This tree is rich in natural auxins that stimulate root development. As a bonus, it also contains Salicylic acid, which offers antifungal and antimicrobial properties to protect cuttings from diseases.
