Some interesting facts about coots and seagulls!

Coots:

i. Despite looking like ducks, coots are actually members of the rail family.

ii. Instead of webbed feet, they have lobed feet, which helps them swim efficiently and also walk on land.

iii. Coots are known for their aggressive territorial behavior, especially during breeding season.

iv. They are omnivores, with a diet consisting mainly of aquatic plants but also including small animals, fish, and eggs.

v. Interestingly, coots can be quite harsh with their own young when food is scarce, sometimes attacking weaker chicks to control the food supply.

Seagulls:

i. Seagulls have a special gland near their eyes that allows them to drink both fresh and salt water by removing excess salt from their bodies.

ii. They possess remarkable memories and can recognize individual human faces, especially those who have fed them before.

iii. Seagulls have a complex communication system that includes various calls and even body movements to signal each other.

iv. While often seen near the sea, many seagulls are moving inland to urban areas and landfills where food is readily available.

v. They are omnivores with a very adaptable diet, eating everything from fish and mollusks to insects and even human food waste.
